Walter R. Perez-Daple

Walter Perez-Daple began his career in the power industry as a field service engineer with the General Electric Company, focused on installation, commissioning, maintenance and operations of combustion turbine power projects in several international locations, including Costa Rica, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Ecuador, St. Croix, United Arab Emirates, and the North Sea. Subsequently, Perez-Daple worked in an alumina refinery on the island of St. Croix (USVI) until the facility’s closure, when he moved to Houston, Texas, to begin work with Houston Lighting & Power, Co. (HL&P), the electric utility serving the Greater Houston area. At HL&P, Perez-Daple led many power plant maintenance and improvement projects and subsequently led the administration of a 1,100MW combined-cycle power plant.
In 1992, Perez-Daple joined a small group of corporate entrepreneurs in a deregulated affiliate of Houston Industries, Inc., formed to pursue electric energy business opportunities worldwide. Perez-Daple became an integral and important part of the company (eventually called Reliant Energy International; REII) as a member of the Executive Management Committee. While at REII, Perez-Daple, as Managing Director of Operations and Projects, managed the construction and operations of power plant projects in Illinois and in Argentina [the Argentina facility was a co-gen plant servicing all of the utilities of a large steel mill], conducted due-diligence efforts is various countries, assisted the international affiliate companies (in power generation and distribution) with efforts to reduce losses and improve operational efficiencies, and led the takeover effort (after privatization) of two major utility companies in Colombia. At REII Mr. Perez-Daple directed the Houston-based activities in support of the international businesses, including: budgeting, staffing, administrative processes, organizational structure, projects evaluation, cost control, shaping and influencing regulations, marketing, loss reduction strategy and programs, technical systems, and overall business expansion strategy. During much of his time at REII, Perez-Daple was a member of the Board of Directors of several of the affiliate companies in Colombia and El Salvador.
Late in the year 2000, Perez-Daple joined Tractebel North America, Inc. (TNA; subsequently named GDF-Suez N.A., and now ENGIE N.A.). While at TNA, Perez-Daple managed the construction and the initial operations of two major power plants, one in the State of Washington, and one in the city of Monterrey, Mexico [at the time, the largest co-gen plant in Mexico].
In 2005, Perez-Daple created WPD Power, LLC, a consulting firm dedicated to assisting clients with the development, acquisition, construction, and operations-maintenance of electric energy assets. Services include due-diligence prior to sale or acquisition, project/busines development, technical and financial assessment of existing assets, contracts negotiations, and construction project management. Clients have included Mitsui, AES, NRG, BPZ Energy, Enchanted Rock Reliability Services, Novatec Solar, POSCO, IC Power, Sol Petroleum, CEPM, and a private investor. Locations while at WPD Power include Canada, Chile, Peru, Roatan (Honduras), Spain, Panama, Dominican Replublic, and the USA.
Perez-Daple is fluent in Spanish and holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Widener University and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Houston, a curriculum blending traditional Industrial Engineering and MBA courses. In addition, Mr. Perez-Daple has regularly participated in executive education programs at Rice University, focusing on Finance, Accounting, and Business Management.
